Did you know there are around 40 young people in Somerset who need help right now?
They come from all over the world, including Albania, Iran, Eritrea, Afghanistan, Syria.
Many are traumatised, have faced being sold as slaves, escaped war; on top of the usual confusion of being a teenager.
People fostering Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children and Young People
Frances and one of the boys in her care Alex* have an amazing relationship.
Frances and her husband fostered children all of all ages over the years, many have been from Somerset and some from all parts of the world.
Sadly Frances’ husband passed away, but she is still a very determined lone Foster Carer and has no intention of retiring while she’s still needed.
Forced to leave his home country, Alex survived a difficult and dangerous to reachÂ Somerset and came to live with Frances.
Since then, he has progressed from having a limited education and knowledge of English to passing all his GCSEs with flying colours – thanks to his very hard work and Frances’ careful teaching. Now he has begun work on his A-levels and is hoping to study engineering at University.
