Making an enquiry
Whether you're serious about fostering in the near future, or just interested in finding out more - the first step is to get in touch for an initial chat. And that's really all it is. A very friendly and informal conversation, where we can just find out a little about you and answer any questions you might have, whether you're looking for some general information or keen to apply now.
We'll talk about the basic requirements for fostering, touch on fees and allowances, and maybe even ask if you've seen any of our recent advertising (such as Theo's Story) as this helps us to monitor our recruitment activity.
Once we've had a chat, there are a number of directions we can take it.
It could be that you're really keen to move forward with fostering - in which case we can either invite you along to an online information session, or we can book an initial home visit.
Perhaps you're really interested, but for one reason or another, now just isn't the right time. We can leave you to call us if or when things change, or we can arrange to contact you again in 6 or 12 months if you'd like us to, but there really is no pressure.
Sometimes while we're talking we may discover alternative options that may be better suited to you at this time, such as applying to be an Advocate or Independent Visitor with Route 1 Advocacy. Independent Visitors are volunteers who support and spend time with children and young people in care, like a friend or extended family member whom they do not live, with but see regularly. You can find out more about Independent Visitors here.
Or maybe from our chat, you'll realise that fostering really isn't for you, and that's fine too. Fostering is an amazing thing to do, but it's not for everyone, and it's important we match the right people to the children in need of foster homes.
