Fostering and Adoption Mascot gets set on St George’s Day
Families enjoyed a day of fun and excitement on Sunday 23 April, when sporting and charity mascots from all over the South West joined forces for a very special steeplechase at Wincanton Races.
Representing ‘Fostering and Adoption in Somerset’ was ‘Sparky’, Somerset County Council’s dragon mascot, competing with the likes of Taunton Football Club’s Cat Wordsworth and Yeovil Town’s Jolly Green Giant.
Sparky put in his best effort; even putting in some pre-race training on the Wincanton Races assault course.
There were dramatic falls and a photo finish between a dolphin and a giant chef.
Large crowds turned out to watch as Sparky ambled over hurdles to place in a respectable sixth position.
At the end of the race, there were sporting handshakes between the rival mascots and a special parade, where the children attending were able to come and greet their favourite characters. Sparky loved posing for photos with adoring new fans.
