‘Wish You Were Here’

Foster Carer Blog

There are some things children don’t get to do, until someone cares enough to make a difference.

This is a lovely blog shared by foster carer Paula –  taking their foster child (who 3 months ago could not ride a bike) on a cycle ride along the Taunton to Bridgwater canal.

First stop Standards lock for a snack. Lovely safe traffic free paths. Talking about the origin of the tow path and how the lock works.

Lunch stop at my Dad’s memorial bench. Time to chat about loss and separation, remembering family and eating chocolate lots of chocolate. Talking about forms of transport canal, walking, cycling and the train in the background.

Stopping to look at the planets as part of the Somerset space walk. Talking science about space the universe and everything.

Stopping at the sun yes we were pretty hot by then.

10 miles done by now so a stop at the cafe at manusel lock for a drink and an ice cream. More talking about families around, children canoeing and where is the toilet?

” just a few more blackberries please” many picked and eaten with a few taken home to make a crumble (with cream, calories burnt) lovely day out 14 miles completed with a child who never had this type of opportunity.
